Apple Wallet Automation Setup

Automatically create draft transactions from Apple Wallet payments

Last updated: May 19, 2026

When you pay with Apple Pay or a card stored in Apple Wallet, iOS can automatically trigger an action in 1M Finance via the Shortcuts app. This creates a prefilled expense draft with the amount, merchant, and card used — you just review it, pick a category, and confirm.

Good to know: Drafts are not saved as real transactions until you confirm them. You can dismiss any draft you don’t want to keep.

POS only: This automation triggers when you pay at a physical card terminal or POS. Online purchases, in-app payments, and web payments do not trigger it.

Requirements

  • iPhone running iOS 17 or later
  • At least one card or pass added to the Wallet app (Apple Pay, debit, credit, or transit card)
  • 1M Finance installed from the App Store
  • The Shortcuts app (preinstalled on iOS)

Setup Guide

1

Open Shortcuts and create a new automation

Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Tap the Automation tab at the bottom, then tap New Automation (or the + button if you already have automations).

2

Choose the Wallet trigger

In the trigger list, find and select Wallet — it shows “When I tap a Wallet Card or Pass”.

3

Select your cards and set run behavior

Select which cards or passes should trigger the automation. We recommend selecting all of them so every payment is captured.

Scroll down on the same screen. Under the run behavior options, select Run Immediately and optionally disable Notify When Run to suppress the Shortcuts notification. Note that 1M Finance will still open briefly to receive the transaction draft. Tap Next.

4

Create a new shortcut and add the 1M Finance action

On the next screen, tap Create New Shortcut. Do not tap the 1M Finance app suggestion directly — you need the full action editor.

In the action editor, tap the Search Actions bar at the bottom and search for “1M Finance”. Select 1M Finance, then select the Quick Add Wallet Expense action.

Map the payment fields

The action card shows four fields: Amount, Merchant, Name, and Card or Pass. Each one needs to be connected to the corresponding Wallet transaction data. The process is the same for each field:

  1. Tap the field’s gray placeholder text on the right (e.g. “Amount”).
  2. Above the keyboard, tap Select Variable.
  3. A Shortcut Input label appears between the trigger and the action — tap it.
  4. The field now shows “Shortcut Input” in blue — tap it again.
  5. A property picker opens — select the matching property (e.g. Amount for the Amount field).

Repeat for all four fields: Amount, Merchant, Name, and Card or Pass.

When all four fields are mapped, the action card shows each field connected in blue:

How matching works: 1M Finance uses the merchant and name to automatically match future transactions to the same category and subcategory. The amount’s currency and card or pass help match the expense to the correct account.

6

Save and test

Tap the checkmark button in the top-right corner to save the automation. It now appears in the Automation tab.

Make a payment at a physical card terminal to test. After the payment, the automation triggers and 1M Finance will have a draft ready for you to review.

Tip: You can edit the automation later by tapping it in the Automation tab. This lets you change the run behavior or review the field mapping.

Tips & Troubleshooting

The automation does not trigger

  • This automation only triggers for payments at physical card terminals (POS). Online purchases, in-app payments, and web payments do not trigger it.
  • Make sure the card you paid with is one of the cards selected in Step 3.
  • Check that the automation is enabled in Shortcuts — it should not show as paused or disabled in the Automation tab.

I don’t see “Quick Add Wallet Expense” in the action search

  • Make sure you tapped Create New Shortcut in Step 4 and are searching in the action editor, not the trigger selection screen.
  • Make sure 1M Finance is installed and has been opened at least once. iOS discovers App Intents only after first launch.
  • Try restarting the Shortcuts app if the action does not appear.
